Public Humanities & Community-Engaged Orientations

We aim to bring a positive contribution to the appreciation and study of cinema on and off campus by creating spaces wherein everyone can engage with films in critical yet enjoyable ways.

We have worked on various educational and outreach projects with local schoolteachers and their students, including at the French American School of Princeton (whose new "Discovery of Cinema" course stems from PFF’s initiatives), the Princeton Charter School, and PhilaFLAM. For this mission, we relied on the rich pedagogical programs and resources offered by various institutions, including CinéSchool and Institut France Cinema that are freely accessible to all teachers interested in bringing the magic of cinema into their classrooms.

School Children in Cinema Class

Our organization benefitted from general and tailored training offered by Princeton University’s Professional Development Center GradFUTURES through its University Administrative Fellowship and Dr. James Van Wyck's mentorship as well as the Modern Language Association through its Public Humanities Incubator (PHI) offered by active professionals and experts. The PHI's pod was led by Dr. Valerie Popp (The New School).

About

The screenings, Q&As, masterclasses, and other events on this website are organized by the Princeton Film Festival (PFF), a recognized organization of Princeton University’s Graduate School. It was created in September 2023 with the aim of both celebrating the most compelling cinematic works related to French-speaking countries around the world and offering a space for productive conversations.

Screening Room

The PFF usually partners with and/or is sponsored by a wide range of Princeton University’s entities (including the Graduate Student Government Board; academic departments, programs, centers, and the French Center for Excellence), the cultural services of France (Villa Albertine in New York) and Canada (Délégation Générale du Québec), several international cinema-related organizations (UniFrance USAInstitut Français Cinéma), and local organizations (Princeton AccueilPrinceton Public LibraryPrinceton Garden Theater). Its events are usually free and open to everyone upon registration.

This organization is open to all Princeton University graduate students interested in supporting our organization’s mission, regardless of identity, such as race, sex, ethnicity, national origin, or other protected characteristics.
